WILD & WOODS DUNSBOROUGH
By Brooke Jephson
2/237 Naturaliste Terrace, Dunsborough is now home to Wild and Woods, a great little lunch spot for hearty and healthy fare.
Penny and Guy Woods opened the café in August last year but Penny says they have just got it to where they want it after a busy Summer.
The gorgeous young woman at the counter was friendly and welcoming and another staff member even called out hello from the kitchen somewhere which was lovely for a town becoming quite infamous for cranky store front operators. I soon learnt the counter woman was Penny the new owner, an ex Virgin flight attendant who has obviously mastered the art of genuine hospitality.
I was very impressed with the abundance of food offered in the counter fridge. The food is simple, colourful and wholesome and there is a huge variety of frittatas, loafs, wraps, patties a gorgeous fresh green looking salad, muffins and the like. The A la Carte breakfast menu was maybe too basic, but the focus is on foods they have sourced locally (kudos) and there is plenty available for gluten free diners and raw treats for the super food conscious.
The café was filled while I was there with a steady stream of locals on lunchtime coming through the door. I tried the green smoothie which was easy to drink and then harassed a friend on the street-side tables outside for information on his wrap which he said was delicious. There is a variety of tasty looking and locally sourced pantry items, sauces, crackers and such on the shelves to take home.
Wild and Woods have taken over the amazing variety of exotic tea blends from the previous owners Tealiscious for retail purchase or to sip in house. Penny and Guy have really filled a niche for wholesome and health conscious lunchtime market around Dunsborough. And are reaping the rewards with a burgeoning business in the heart of Dunsborough.
