The wait is finally over. It's been too long between drinks for a central venue which ticks all the boxes.
Hello Little Brother.
First impressions on entering through the main door (there's also a rear entry off Hannay Lane), is the SPACE. Those who frequented the previous venue many moons ago, would remember it being squishy, too loud and at peak times, difficult to get a drink. LB have opened up the space nicely to include more than adequate seating, 2 bars and an open kitchen. LOVE an open kitchen! It's honest and oh-so Melbourne.
The service from WO to GO was spot on. Friendly, attentive and informative. The LB owners have obviously put time into choosing their staff. They all look happy to be there and that's important.
Now to my favourite part of the evening, the food.
My +1 and I chose a few dishes to share.
CHIPS, TRUFFLE MAYO. [VG] $9
Crispy, good size, nicely seasoned and the mayo was delish. Decent serving for 2. My partner is a chip-connoisseur and he gave these the thumbs-up.
BRAISED LAMB NECK CROQUETTES, GARO. [GFA] $17
These were phenomenal. A subtle crunch, followed by creamy mash with well-seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth lamb. So good. There were 4 on the plate, which was perfect.
Beef, cheddar, pickle, tomato chutney.
Fried Japanese chicken, wasabi mayo, pickle cucumber
We tried one of each. Both were delicious. Did I mention the nice buns?
BEETROOT, GOATS CURD, HAZELNUT,
RADICCHIO,WHITE BALSAMIC. [VG GF VA] $14
Being a lover of all things beetroot, this was a must-try.
Creamy curd, crunchy nuts, subtle dressing and a well-thought combo made this very enjoyable.
The vibe is good. You can eat (and drink) downstairs or upstairs. The upstairs space has fully opening windows, so will no doubt become a favourite summer spot for many. There may even be a bonus ocean view.
There's all your favourite BB Co Craft Brews, wines and a tidy cocktail list with all the good stuff.
Little Brother have definitely filled the need for a classy but still casual venue. Hey we are d'outh after all.
