LABEL: Amie Churack Designs
What is your earliest memory of fashion as a child?
My earliest memory of fashion is sitting and watching my Grandmother who was a dressmaker make me a dress, it had a love heart cut out at the back, I loved it and wore it to death. As soon as I was old enough I got a job Lee Louise in Dunsborough, where I learnt that fashion is not only how you look but how it makes you feel. To me fashion is that feeling when you put on a garment that makes you feel a million dollars. This is what inspired me to get into fashion, I wanted to be the reason behind a woman feeling empowered, sexy and confident.
In what year at high school did you think you would head down the design path?
I did terrible in my fashion class in high school, I think I may have even failed! I wasn’t interested in creating boring boxer shorts or decorating t-shirts. I can’t think of a moment in time where I thought this is what I want to do, I just knew.
Your personal style in 3 words?
My personal style is very different to my design style. Amie Churack Designs is feminine, beautiful and luxurious. My personal style is relaxed, comfortable and casual, nearly everything in wardrobe is either striped or denim!
How was your time at Curtin?
I studied a Bachelor of Arts at Curtin University with a double major in Fashion and Textiles. I enjoyed my time in the School of Design and Art at Curtin University immensely, the technologies that students have access to were fantastic. The teachers and technicians were a wealth of knowledge and so helpful.

Tell us about your Fragmented Reality collection...
Fragmented reality was inspired by the multifaceted nature of human personality. As individuals we choose which aspects of ourselves we are prepared to reveal or conceal. Altering how our lives are perceived, fragmenting reality.
Which Australian designers do you admire and why?
I love Western Australian designers Flannel and Morrison because of there use of natural fibres and effortless, relaxed style.
In 5 years time I would like to be...
In the next five years I would like to develop my fashion label Amie Churack Designs. Since my graduation from Curtin I have been focusing on bridal and evening wear, I would like to expand this.
I am passionate about natural fibres and quality construction, I would like to launch a ready to wear line with an emphasis on these qualities. These garments will be reflecting the relaxed coastal lifestyle of Dunsborough, comfortable and luxurious.
